Sneakers Forever. A Time Capsule.

Sneakers often seem to take the wayside in the spectator's version of the fashion world, and for no good reason. They are considered bulky, sloppy, and they never seem to match what's deemed "stylish". There is a terrible misconception stirring in the air that the "working bees" of fashion don't have time for comfort- or rather, that comfort is never in vogue. But take a look around the streets! Hightops, runners, sneakers galore!

They are seen on prancing feet under summer silhouettes, sheltered by the slouch of boyfriend jeans, and bubbling in colour and volume from the inconspicuous legging. Why? Because comfort is everyone's guilty pleasure. Throw the guilt away by adorning your feet in sneakers with an interesting pattern or palette and avoid ones that swallow your legs' darling contour. Opt for a little heel to work your long, lean legs (if they aren't there yet, they will be soon!). Feeling even bolder? Mix metallics with suede with leather with brocade and have yourself a feast of new and old.

Sneakers are not a short-lived trend, so why not just get a pair? They have been around since the late 1800s, beginning with Keds. The 1920s birthed Chuck Taylors and Adidas and by the 1950s, sneakers became a fashion statement (let's thank James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause for that one). These days, Isabel Marant (top and bottom left) and Barbara Bui (bottom left) sprinkle their sugar on this timeless classic. So skip the media headlines- luxury is not all glitz and stiletto heels! Practicality and comfort have a touch of glamour, too.
